Git Down an’ Come In

“Git Down an’ Come In.”

Frank Bird Linderman. Bunch-Grass and Blue-Joint, 1921.

“GIT down an’ come in!”
Could words open wider a heart or a door
Than that greeting of plainsmen in days that are o’er,
“Git down an’ come in?”

“Git down an’ come in!”
The bid to the stranger, the welcome of friend,
When miles lay ahead, or when nearing an end;
The same in the sunshine, the same in the night:
May mem’ry preserve it, and time never blight
“Git down an’ come in!”
